What is Gout?

Nausea and VomitingNausea and vomiting are not diseases, but rather are symptoms of many different conditions, such as infection (“stomach flu”), food poisoning, motion sickness, overeating, blocked intestine, illness, concussion or brain injury, appendicitis, and migraines.

Causes

Nausea and vomiting are common signs and symptoms that can be caused by numerous conditions. Nausea and vomiting most often are due to viral gastroenteritis — often mistakenly called stomach flu.

Many medications can cause nausea and vomiting, as can general anesthesia for surgery. Rarely, nausea and vomiting may indicate a serious or even life-threatening problem. However, nausea and vomiting can be a symptom of cancer treatment or a side effect of medicine that has been prescribed. This can effect your eating habits and your bodies ability to keep nutrients in the body.

Treatments

Many times doctors will suggest patients to drink water, sports drinks, or broths.
Eat as tolerated, but only light, bland foods, such as crackers or plain bread to begin with. If your nausea is chronic, you’ll need to find a variety of vegetables and proteins that don’t upset your stomach to maintain proper nutrition. However, if your symptoms do not go away on their own, a doctor may prescribe medications to help alleviate nausea and vomiting.
